A walk-in coronavirus testing centre will open in Foleshill after a rise in Covid-19 cases in the CV6 area of Coventry.

The new facility will open next to Broad Street GP surgery on Thursday, August 13.

Open for advance booking only, it will be the first site in the city to offer appointments to people who arrive by foot for those who live locally.

Coventry’s director of Public Health Liz Gaulton revealed plans to open a walk-in site at a council meeting last week, stating the north-east of Coventry was seeing “slightly higher rates than elsewhere across the city”.

A Covid-19 outbreak was reported at the nearby Tesco Arena Park earlier this month, with nine confirmed cases among staff.

Across Coventry as a whole there have been 42 confirmed cases in the past seven days at a rate of 11.30 per 100,000, although the city’s overall rate of 402.40 per 100,00 remains lower than neighbouring Solihull (442.30), Warwickshire (445.80) and the West Midlands region as a whole (469.60).

Anyone with coronavirus symptoms, however mild, is urged to get a test to help stop the spread of the virus.
