A teenager is in hospital after a shooting in Coventry in the early hours of this morning (Saturday).

Gunshots were heard at around 1am at Edgwick Park in Foleshill and a spokesman for West Midlands Police said that an 18-year-old man later attended hospital with a gunshot wound.

He remains in hospital in a stable condition and his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A police cordon remained in place this morning in Foleshill Road after a forensic examination of the area around the park which resulted in a number of weapons being recovered by police.

Officers investigating the incident have since arrested a man and a woman, both aged 19, on possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

They remain in custody this afternoon being questioned by police.

Coventry Police enact dispersal order in neighbourhood where man shot

Police have enacted dispersal powers to prevent violence and anti-social behaviour in a Coventry neighbourhood where a man was shot last weekend.

The zone has been introduced by the neighbourhood team in Edgwick Park, Foleshill, and encompasses the park itself as well as the bordering roads and homes.

The powers will be in place between 7pm today (Friday, August 14) until 7pm Sunday (August 16).

On Twitter, Coventry Police said the move had been taken "following incidents of anti-social behaviour and violence around Edgwick Park".

The team said: "We will disperse people or groups likely to cause ASB or violence. This is being done to protect the residents of #Coventry."

The neighbourhood was the scene of a shooting in the early hours of August 9.

Police have powers to move on people at Coventry park this weekend

Police will be using dispersal powers in the area around a Coventry park for the second weekend running.

Edgwick Park in Foleshill and the bordering roads and homes will once again be subject to the dispersal powers which will allow officers to move on people or groups they believe are "likely to cause anti-social behaviour or violence".

The powers came in to force at 7pm tonight (Friday) and remain in place until 7pm on Sunday, August 23.

A spokesman for Coventry Police said: "We will disperse people or groups likely to cause anti-social behaviour or violence.

"This is being done to protect the residents of Coventry. Please help us help you. Anyone with concerns or info should contact us via live chat or 101. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously."

The WHOLE of Foleshill should have been sealed-off from the rest of Coventry after the recent spike in COVID-19 cases there.

(I was tempted to add 'permanently')

Ever since the lockdown was announced, social media has been awash with stories of the area not complying. For whatever reason, the authorities have chosen to largely ignore things.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
