The bodies of Barry Harrision, 47, and Amanda, 34, were found inside the top flat of Regal Court, High Street, Shanklin, on Monday evening.

Their two sons, aged three and five, were discovered unhurt in the hallway.

Mrs Harrison's death is being treated as suspicious. Mr Harrison was found hanged in the loft.

Hampshire police have confirmed their identities but said the results of post-mortem examinations conducted on Tuesday would not be released until an inquest was opened on Friday.

The couple used to lived in Warwickshire and were former employees of the Peugeot Ryton plant.

Mrs Harrison's mother Lynda, sisters Tracy and Paula, and brother Karl said in a statement: "The family are deeply shocked and devastated at the death of Amanda.

"She was a loving, hard working and devoted mother to her children."

The statement added that they needed "time to come to terms with our loss".

Mr Harrison's eldest son Lee, 19, from Coventry, said: "My dad was one of the nicest men you could ever meet, a devoted family man.

"His family meant everything to him, and he meant everything to his family.

"His death is a massive and devastating loss to everyone that knew and loved him.

"Our main concern at this moment in time is the welfare of my brothers, and our thoughts go out to everyone affected at this difficult time."

Found hanging

The couple's sons were found by family friend Pat Cannon, who works as a manager for the block of flats and was visiting the flat after concerns had been raised.

She said the children were playing in the hallway when she found their father hanging from the loft.

After police were called, the woman's body was found.

The boys are now staying with a family friend, a police spokesman said.

Det Ch Insp Ben Snuggs said: "The focus of our enquiries is on building an accurate picture of Amanda and Barry's lives.

"This will help us to better understand what has led to these tragic events.

"The investigation team would like to thank family and friends for their co-operation at such a difficult and upsetting time in their personal lives."
