Council bosses plan to bulldoze a sports pavilion in Nuneaton.

A sign has appeared at the Haunchwood Pavilion which states that Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council plans to get rid of the building off Park Lane.

It says a planning application has been submitted to demolish the pavilion - and it could happen as soon as next month.

"Site notice of application for prior notification for the demolition of a building," it reads.

It goes on to add: "The date which the applicant proposes to carry out the demolition is 07.09.20."

A question mark has hung over the future of the building for some time.

Back in April 2018, the Town Hall's cabinet was told the Pavilion need modernisation to bring the building back into use for a variety of users.

Haunchwood Sports Junior Football Club had been fundraising to use the old cricket pavilion as a home.

The team, which provides football for four to 17-year-olds, has been using the council's borough lottery to raise funds.

But, as we reported in our newsletter, arsonists torched the pavilion.

Flames tore through the building and it left concerns what would happen to the building.

CoventryLive attempted to get more information about the plans for the future of the site.

But none have been made available on the planning section of the council's website.
