CoventryLive yesterday reported that a number of staff at the Arena Park store had tested positive.
This afternoon a joint statement was released by Coventry City Council and Tesco.
It revealed that nine Tesco staff had tested positive for Covid-19 at Arena Park.
The statement also said that the management team at the Tesco Arena Park store is working closely with public health bodies.
It added that the situation was being assessed and efforts being made to trace any people who have had contact with the staff tested positive, who are now all isolating.
The statement said that a deep clean had taken place at parts of the Tesco Arena Park store.
The joint statement said: “The management of Tesco Arena Park is working closely with the public health team at Coventry City Council and Public Health England (PHE) Midlands, following nine confirmed cases of Covid-19 among people working at the store.
“Public health partners are thoroughly assessing the situation, including tracing of any contacts of the individuals with the virus.”
Dr Roger Gajraj, consultant in communicable disease control for PHE Midlands, said: “The management at Tesco Arena Park are cooperating fully with public health professionals to protect the health and wellbeing of their workforce and wider public health.
“The individuals who have tested positive for Covid-19 are all isolating for at least 10 days, with their household members advised to self-isolate for 14 days – as per national guidance.
“Testing is being arranged for the group of staff members identified as being in closer contact with affected individuals.
“Overnight, the store has performed a deep clean of targeted areas, to reduce risk of infection being spread.”
