Residents in Allesley are being plagued by anti-social behaviour and crime emanating from a hotel according to a ward councillor.

The Allesley Hotel provided temporary housing to almost 200 homeless people at the peak of the Covid-19 outbreak.

But Cllr Glenn Williams said that guests at the hotel include vulnerable people placed by Coventry City Council in a relatively isolated location away from the key services they need.

Cllr Williams (Independent/Bablake) also accused the local authority of performing a U-turn on a commitment to stop using the provider.

Cllr Williams said: “The hotel is having a massive impact on the neighbourhood. People are defecating in the street. It’s just unacceptable and it’s causing a lot of anxiety. I was told eighteen months ago, at a full cabinet meeting, that the council would stop using the Allesley Hotel and they did slow down, but then they started using it again during the pandemic.”

“Then there’s nothing for them in the village, they can’t get the support they need, be it for mental health issues, drug issues or what have you. That support is in the city centre.”

Cllr Williams voiced frustrations over reports of crime and anti-social behaviour allegedly emanating from the hotel that have been raised by residents.

He said: “The residents are not happy with the level of anti-social behaviour and crime.

“There’s aggressive begging going on, which we found out was being carried out by people from Rugby.

"There’s a lot of criminal and suspicious activity which the people in Allesley don’t want to put up with and nor should they.”
