A new super bus service could hit the streets providing better links for Nuneaton and Bedworth.

The project is part of an almost half a million pound bid being made by Warwickshire County Council for a slice of government funding to improve bus services.

In its expression of interest, the county council has proposed two initiatives, one in Nuneaton and one in Rugby.

The borough scheme is to launch a new bus service calling at Bedworth to link workers with jobs at Bermuda Industrial Estate, a large housing development and a rail station all in Bermuda, before going on to West Nuneaton.

It would form part of the wider Bermuda Connectivity project, which includes the plans to open up Bermuda bridge to traffic as well as works to the A444, College Street roundabout and the hamburger island works that have taken place at Coton Arches.

Nuneaton councillor Jeff Clarke, cabinet member for transport and planning said: “It’s great news for residents of both Nuneaton and Rugby that we have been successful in our bid for government funding to support bus services.

“These initiatives will bring greatly improved connectivity not only in some of our most rural communities but also in the urban areas where need has been identified and where it can support access to employment and healthcare.”

The council said it would launch the Rugby Borough and Demand Responsive Transport service within the next 12 months, while the launch of a new bus service serving Bedworth and Nuneaton will be implemented upon completion of the major Bermuda Connectivity highway scheme.

Now Shire Hall has to wait to see if the bid for for funding for supported bus services, which totals £30 million across the UK, is successful.

More National Express services to link Coventry, Nuneaton and Bedworth



National Express bosses have confirmed new services between Nuneaton and Bedworth and Coventry start this weekend.

As of Sunday (July 19) the 20 Service between the city and the borough will be increased.

More buses are being promised and earlier journeys to Nuneaton.

The news comes after the firm extended its number 20 service to Nuneaton back in January.

Chris Gibbens, commercial director of National Express Bus, said: "As the government continues to relax the lockdown rules, National Express Coventry continues to increase services to safely accommodate more customers back onto our buses. Customers should check our website or all of our latest timetables.

“Our January extension of the 20 service to Nuneaton was welcomed by many, so I am pleased to say that from 19 July it will return to its pre-pandemic frequency, running up to every 20 minutes Monday to Saturday daytime, with new earlier journeys to and from Nuneaton.

“We are asking customers to work with us and help keep fellow passengers safe by following the latest government legislation. The rules state that passengers must wear face coverings on public transport unless they are exempt.

“We’ve enhanced our vehicle cleaning regimes to reduce the risk of contact with the coronavirus, including extra cleaning of shared surface areas. And our cleaning teams are jumping on buses at bus stations, key interchanges and stops to wipe down mid-route.

“Our buses are also being deep cleaned by “fogging” - an aerosol-based disinfection containing a high-performance antiviral solution that settles in the hard-to-reach areas.”
