It's believed the incident was caught on CCTV
These images show the charred remains of a car after an arson attack in the city.
A dustbin was deliberately set alight in Banks Road, Radford, in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday) and the flames quickly spread to a nearby car.
The white BMW was engulfed by the blaze and crews from Red Watch at Coventry Fire Station were called to the incident at around 3.15am.
Firefighters managed to stop the fire from spreading any further, but these photos - posted on Twitter by Coventry Fire Station - show the aftermath.
Ashes from the destroyed dustbin can be seen on the path next to the burnt-out shell of the BMW.
Fire crews told CoventryLive that the vehicle will be a write-off.
The horrific actions were caught on the victim's CCTV - as was the inferno that engulfed her BMW as it sat outside her home in Radford.
Shelly Anne Jones was asleep at home in Banks Road in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday), as was her 13-year-old daughter Kiera, when the fire was deliberately started in her dustbin.
The flames quickly spread to her car and the fire had been roaring for around 40 minutes before it eventually woke Shelly.
The 38-year-old told CoventryLive: "I got woken up as I could see an orange light at the window. I have been in a house fire before so I just knew straight away.
"I ran to the window and could see the flames and knew the car was on fire and then my smoke alarm started.
"I rang the fire brigade and got my daughter, and from the inside it looked like the fire was up to the front door, the fire brigade said to go in to the back garden.
"It was horrific and it took Kiera seven hours to calm down."
Shelly's 19-year-old son, Reece, was fortunately out of the house and at his girlfriend's when the drama unfolded.
Firefighters from Coventry Fire Station were called to the blaze and stopped the flames from spreading any further.
Shelly, who co-owns Vanity beauty salon in Styvechale, said she has "worked so hard and saved up for ages" to buy her car and the family are "distraught".
