The store has been closed since March because of coronavirus restrictions

The lifting of coronavirus restrictions for non-essential shops saw queues build up outside Primark in Coventry city centre this morning.

With doors opening for the first time since March, those desperate for a hit of retail therapy were quick to join the line which sneaked its way through Broadgate.

Barriers had been set up to ensure orderly queues and shoppers have been urged to continue following social distancing measures set up to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Today, June 15, is #IAmOpen day and Primark, alongside a host of retailers, finally reopened their doors after lockdown.

Pictures above, courtesy of BBC CWR show eager shoppers waiting in the morning sun, finally able to grab some shopping for the first time in three months.

A string of changes have been made to allow customers to use the store safely and maintain social distancing.

The chain shared new rules with shoppers to make them aware of the measures before they shop.

They include extra security, warning signs, emptier aisles than in previous times, staff wearing PPE and the installation of perspex screens.

The Arena shopping centre was fairly quiet when I visited earlier today. But I was there before lunchtime.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

Alvis was chock-a-block, also traffic on the Holyhead Road!

Still hardly anyone on the buses though.
