A burglar found carrying Rolex watches and a wallet stolen from a home in Coventry is now behind bars for three years.

Terry Gregg was spotted in the Wyken area of the city by a member of the public who recognised his face from a local Facebook page appeal to identify the person believed to be responsible for a burglary.

He was detained and found with two Rolex watches, two Hugo Boss watches and a wallet with ID for Mellowdew Road in Stoke.

Officers attended Mellowdew Road, where the owner was gardening, and realised that her house had been ransacked, drawers were emptied and money and jewellery had been stolen.

Gregg admitted to the break-in on April 21 and was imprisoned this week at Warwick Crown Court.

He was sentenced under the third-strike rule which means that burglars who strike at private homes three times will be locked up for a minimum of three years.

Gregg, 54, of The Greenfield, Stoke Aldermoor, had previously denied two other charges of burglary - one in Browning Road and one in Wyver Crescent, both in Stoke, also in April - and was due to stand trial.

However, in light of the prison term for the Mellowdew Road burglary, the Crown Prosecution Service took the decision to let the counts lie on the file and the trial will no longer take place.
