A Coventry woman has been jailed after stealing money from an elderly woman in a retirement village.

Terri-Anne Hancox knocked on the door of an 85-year-old at Earlsdon Park Village, in Earlsdon, on February 20 of this year.

According to West Midlands Police, she claimed that her family members had recently passed away, and that she was "really upset about it".

Her victim is believed to have invited her in, and when she went to the kitchen to make a drink, Hancox stole a small bag containing £17 - money that the victim needed to pay her cleaner.

Two days after the incident, Hancox was arrested, after police officers recognised her from CCTV.

She was later charged with burglary.

The 37-year-old, of Hewitt Avenue, Coventry, was jailed for three years and two months at Leamington Crown Court earlier this week (Tuesday, June 9).
