Bins were left over-flowing in a popular Coventry park this morning after people flocked to enjoy barbecues and picnics.

War Memorial Park was packed yesterday due to the new lockdown rules allowing people to visit one person outside of their household in a public place, as long as they stay two metres apart.

The sun was also shining and people were making the most of the nice weather.

But bins across the park this morning (May 21) were left over-flowing with rubbish.

Councillor Glenn Williams posted pictures of the state of the park on a walk this morning.

He wrote in a Tweet: "A beautiful morning for a walk in the award-winning Memorial Park. It won't win many awards today!!"

CoventryLive contacted Coventry City Council about the bins in the park.

A spokesman said: "The tweet was posted at 8.58am and the staff start at 8.30am so they would have been on their way around the park.

"During lockdown, park staff have worked very hard to improve the park and it can be difficult to get it completely litter free as people are in the park from 6am or earlier.

"From talking to park staff, the mess will have now been or will be cleaned though."
