A teenager pulled over motorists while pretending to be a police officer and then tried to steal their cars.

Anthony Ward, of Oxford Road, Ryton-on-Dunsmore, even used a blue light to convince his victims he was legit.

Their cars were then driven off, leaving them alone and without transport on long stretches of road and in the early hours of the morning.

The 19-year-old pleaded guilty to three counts of theft and three counts of attempted theft at Aylesbury Crown Court on May 13.

He was sentenced to more than three years imprisonment in a Young Offenders Institute.

One victim had left a petrol station in Cumberland Avenue, Slough, at around 1.45am on November 28, 2019, when he noticed a car driving very closely behind him at speed, with illuminating blue and red lights.

Believing it was a police vehicle, the driver pulled over into a side road.

A man then exited the vehicle and approached the victim's driver side window, shining a torch towards the car.

Initially, the man did not say anything, but eventually the victim was asked to get out of the car.

The offender then got into his car and drove off in it at speed. The car used to make the stop also fled the scene.

Then on January 10 this year, two people were driving along the M40 at around 5am when they noticed a vehicle driving behind them at speed, with an illuminating blue light.

After pulling over, they were approached by a man who said he was a police officer. They were asked to step out of the car, and as they did the offender got into the car and drove off.

On January 16, another victim’s car was driven away after he pulled over in the hard shoulder between junctions 13 and 14 of the M25, after believing a police car with illuminating lights was behind him.

Again, the victim was told by the offender that he was a police officer, before his car was driven away after he got out.

Three further incidents took place on January 16, 27 and 30, when victims were followed on the M3, the M4 and the A4, Great West Road in London. However none of the victim’s cars were stolen during these incidents.

At this time, only the car from the first incident has been recovered.

I know someone who played at policemen and pulled a motorist over on Longford Bridge. He gave the driver a right b*ll*cking for speeding and told him to produce his documents at Stoney-Stanton Rd police station. As far as I know he was never caught, though he did time for other offences.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
