The body was spotted in the River Leam in Jephson Gardens, close to Willes Road, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, at about 06:25 BST.

Police and the fire service attended and recovered it from the water.

The Warwickshire force said the cause of death was not known and formal identification was yet to take place.

Det Insp Teresa McKenna said: "Sadly we have been unable to identify the man as he did not have any identification on his person so we are appealing for the public's help to identify him.

"The man is described as white, in his late 30s to early 40s, of medium build, clean shaven, with blond hair and blue eyes.

"He was wearing a black puffer jacket with a hood, a navy blue long-sleeved England football t-shirt, black Lonsdale tracksuit bottoms and grey Hi-Tec 'Exodus' trainers.

"We have also released a picture of a set of keys found on his person in the hope that someone recognises these."

A police spokesman said Jephson Gardens remained cordoned off while investigations were ongoing "to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident".

That's a pretty distinctive key ring set
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

River death no longer treated as suspicious - police

The death of a man whose body was found in a river in Leamington is no longer being treated as suspicious.

The discovery of the body was made on Friday morning (May 15) and emergency services were called to nearby Willes Road at around 6.25am.

Initially, officers struggled to identify the body as the man had no ID on him, so they posted an image of a distinctive set of keys they hoped would lead to his identification.

Earlier today the force stated it believes the body is that of a 65-year-old man from Leamington.

And now Warwickshire Police has stated that the death is no longer being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

A spokesman said: "We continue to appeal to anyone who may have been in the area between midnight and 6am on Friday, May 15, and may have seen something or has dashcam footage to come forward."
