The Tile Hill restaurant has reopened for drive-thru takeaway business only

KFC lovers were out in force this afternoon as one of the fast food chain’s Coventry outlets reopened for takeaways - but for drive-thru customers only.

The Tile Hill restaurant’s drive-thru has reopened for takeaway business but KFC has urged people “don’t all rush at once”.

It proved a popular draw though with around 30 cars queuing for food at around 4.30pm this afternoon.

Despite the long line of cars there was no congestion beyond the entry to the drive-thru restaurant.

The car park at the restaurant had been strategically coned-off to allow cars to queue in a spiral pattern.

It’s not known how long customers had to wait in line for but all seemed happy to wait their turn as the staff dealt with orders as quickly as they could.

The reopened restaurants were already offering a delivery service and will continue to do so.

Bosses say they want to offer more choice to those already on the road for essential journeys.

They also revealed a list of changes customers would see, including a smaller menu and shorter trading hours.

A KFC spokesman said: “We’ve been working hard to responsibly reopen our restaurants and now we’re spreading our wings a little further.

“In line with government advice, we’ve decided to open the drive-thru lanes at 55 of our UK restaurants that are already open for delivery.

“We know it’s tempting, but please, please don’t all rush at once! Delivery remains the best way to get your fried chicken fix – we just want to offer a little more choice to those who are already on the road for essential journeys or on their way home from difficult shifts.”

Second KFC reopens in Coventry

A second KFC has opened its drive-thru in Coventry

There were huge queues at the first of the fast food chains to open in Tile Hill.

Customers reported waiting for up to an hour and a half for a taste of fried chicken.

Now a second store will be open to drive-thru customers, hopefully reducing the queues.

The KFC in Austin Drive in Court House Green is now open.

No restaurants are open for eating in, as the Government rules won't allow that until at least the start of June.

But branches are operating across the country operating either delivery or drive-thru options.

New rules are in place to help ensure social distancing and stop the spread of Covid-19.

The rules include a pared-down menu - with no oven-baked items. That includes the vegan burger.

KFC respond to lack of social distancing claims at Coventry branch

Fast food chain KFC has issued a reminder to staff at a Coventry branch after receiving a customer complaint about social distancing and poor hygiene.

The complaint was received about the branch at the Cross Point Business Park where it was alleged social distancing was not being enforced, and the dining room was in a poor state of cleanliness.

Pictures sent to CoventryLive show large crowds gathered inside the restaurant, seemingly waiting for food orders to be completed by staff.

According to a customer who visited the KFC branch, there were around 15 people within close proximity to each other, with no social distancing markers put in place.

The customer went on to allege that in the 50 minute window he spent in the restaurant, no efforts by staff were made to clean tables, floors, or ordering screens in the dining room, or the public bathrooms.

In response, KFC has said that they have sent a reminder out to staff at the Cross Point branch, revealing that social distancing, limiting the number of customers inside, and regular sanitising is expected.

A spokesperson for the chain went on to say that in addition, they rely on customers to keep to the rules to maintain a safe environment.

I honestly think this is 'situation normal'!

At least in the places I visit.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
