A thief who stole a doctor's bag from a car outside a pharmacy in Coventry has been jailed.

The doctor returned to his car in Harnall Lane, Hillfields, to find it had been broken into and his bag containing his bank cards and NHS ID had been stolen.

Officers were called just before 5pm on Wednesday, April 22, and after reviewing CCTV made an arrest yesterday (April 28).

After questioning, Sabrina Moustakim, of Hastings Road in Stoke, was charged with theft and the 32-year-old appeared before the city's magistrates' court today (April 29).

She pleaded guilty and was jailed for eight weeks, as well as having to pay a £128 victim surcharge.

Another woman was arrested as part of the incident and later charged with possession of an offensive weapon.

Leoni Clare, 33, of Birmingham Road, Allesley, also appeared at Coventry Magistrates' Court where she entered a not guilty plea.

She is now due to stand trial at the same court on May 27.

Woman found with lock knife during investigation into theft of doctor's bag

A woman found with a knife as police investigated a theft in the city has avoided being sent to prison.

Magistrates made the decision to suspend Leoni Clare's 12-week prison term despite being found in possession of the lock knife in Coventry on April 28.

Officers were trying to track down a thief who had stolen a doctor's bag in Hillfields a few days earlier when they came across 33-year-old Clare.

She was originally arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods, but was later charged with possession of an offensive weapon.

Clare, of the Allesley Hotel, pleaded guilty at Coventry Magistrates' Court and was handed the suspended prison sentence and was ordered to pay £100 court costs and a £122 victim surcharge.

She also failed to comply with supervision requirements following release from prison and was fined a further £100.

As we reported in our Coventry newsletter, the woman who carried out the theft of the doctor's bag in Hillfields on April 22 - Sabrina Moustakim - was jailed for eight weeks after admitting the offence.
