An elderly person was left on a partially deflated air mattress at a Coventry care home.

Inspectors had to point out to staff that the mattress pump was making an “extremely loud noise” and the low-pressure light was on.

It came as Evedale Care Home, in Occupation Road, was rated ‘inadequate’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and placed in special measures.

The home was rated inadequate overall, as well as being inadequate in being safe and well-led. For being effective, caring and responsive, the home was rated requires improvement.

Despite the findings, inspectors noted that service users spoke highly of the staff at the home, who were described as caring in nature and found to understand the importance of promoting people’s rights.

But inspectors also found a number of things that concerned them, including that risks were not always assessed.

And it’s not the first time that the home has performed poorly in an inspection. On the previous visit from inspectors in January 2019, the service was rated requires improvement for the fourth time running.
