National Express is set to suspend all of its coach services as a consequence of the coronavirus pandemic.

From midnight on Sunday April 5, all National Express buses routes will be halted indefinitely, the nationwide coach provide has confirmed.

Up until this time, the existing limited coach network will continue. It had already seen a Covid-19 related reduction earlier in March.

It comes as a result of a massive fall in passenger numbers, with the UK in a period of self-isolation, and non-essential travel prohibited.

The announcement only relates to National Express's coach services - meaning that National Express Coventry services across the city are unaffected - though these are running on a separate, reduced timetable.

It is a drastic step for a travel company which rarely suspends service - even running on Christmas Day.

Passengers who had booked tickets on buses after April 5 can keep their tickets, and amend them for future travel within the next 12 months, free of charge - regardless of the terms and conditions.

Customers do not need to make contact with National Express until they wish to rebook.

For passengers who do not want this option, a full refund will be issued for cancelled services in line with terms and conditions.

Full details are available on the National Express website here.
