University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire has introduced new restrictions on its maternity wards and who can go there due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The hospital trust said the new measures were in accordance with national guidelines.

The new restrictions were announced on Saturday March 28 and UHCW said they are designed to protect mothers, babies, families and staff.

The new rules prohibit visiting on all maternity wards and pregnant women must attend antenatal and postnatal appointments - and ultrasound scans - alone.

As regards women who are set to give birth the trust has said they can be accompanied by a birthing partner.

However, birthing partners must not have any coronavirus symptoms and are also told they must bring their own food and drink as once they arrive at hospital they will not be able to leave the maternity ward until babies have been delivered.
