I keep hearing that people have lost their jobs, and of others not able to go into work; so I'd have thought there'd be plenty of spare (temporary) labour for the council to tap into if they become short-handed? Reeves, pull your finger out!
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

Seems most councils have done the same I know Derby has from fellow gardening friends . One council Stafford now charge for garden waste collections.

I find it very offensive Melisandre.

I feel that this is a softening up process to charging us extra, but it's being dressed up as something good to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

That's what I think just looking at this tells me it wont be just bins but in every thing going on this news and we normally follow suit.

Recent news from the chancellor to me is the same the same telling the banks to give loans as they were helped out when they the banks were in trouble then further down it said government money as promised to help business has nt been given so to me its government supporting banks again by making businesses get into debt with loans .

Walking home this evening there were a lot of blue bins overloaded with the wrong type of rubbish parked by the roadside and presenting a major health hazard to passers-by. :fuming:

Nothing surprises me any more Dutchman as I said on a garden site and they all agreed our government are not satisfied with just a corona virus they want the plague here too considering they moan at us about rubbish laying about with so many rats are now within 6ft of our homes.

If others like supermarkets and hospitals can take on more people to help why not our council for the rubbish . If need be get prisoners out to do the job.
Are nt these the people running our towns and city's surpose to be highly qualified for their jobs but seems they have no common sense what's so ever in a time like this.

The ‘welfare vans’ keeping Coventry's bin crews safe

New ‘welfare vehicles’ have been deployed to help keep Coventry’s bin crews safe during the coronavirus outbreak.

Coventry City Council has more than a dozen vans tailing traditional refuse collection vehicles, as well as minibuses no longer in use by schools.

The vehicles are being used to help keep staff safe by offering them access to toilet and hand washing facilities, whilst also enabling crews to keep their distance from colleagues.

Bins crews have been left heartened by the support of Coventry residents, who have shown support and appreciation of their work during lockdown by waving and clapping as they pass.

However, some disruption to the service is expected.

Garden waste collections were also suspended for two weeks last week, with the suspension likely to continue into a third week.
