Nuneaton's carnival organisers have cancelled this year's event.

Nuneaton Carnival committee say they have been forced to scrap this year's annual event due to the "uncertain times" surrounding the coronavirus outbreak.

This year's carnival was due to take place on Sunday, June 7 with the theme of 'let's party'.

But Martin Hobbins, chairman of the committee, said the celebrations, which would have been the 90th, could not go on as planned.

"After long deliberation and many conversations with the carnival committee it is with heavy heart that we decided to cancel this years carnival due to the uncertain times with Covid 19," he said.

"Whilst this is a cancellation of the day the 90th Birthday celebrations are just postponed to 2021.

"We appreciate this may cause some of you some unwanted pressure due to plans that have already been made and the hard work that has been started but feel this is the right thing to do at this time.

"We will be in contact again with all involved once the situation has calmed down."

The date has already been set for next year's event and they plan to make it even better than ever before.

"Our event next year is already planned for Sunday, June 13 so we are looking to come back bigger, better and stronger with everyone's help and support," Mr Hobbins added.
