A "suspicious substance" and two grenades were foundHomes have been evacuated after a “suspicious substance” was found at a Coventry house.
Residents on Brackenhurst Road were told to leave their homes as a bomb squad descended on the street in dramatic scenes today.
Police have stressed that the incident is not believed to be terrorism-related, and that the previous resident of the house where the substance was found worked as an engineer in the Second World War.
Late this morning, workers were clearing out a property in the road in the Coundon area of the city.
They found what is believed to be two grenades, and called police.
The bomb squad determined that both devices were empty. But a later search of the property revealed a “suspicious substance” in the garage.
This is currently being assessed and, as a precaution, neighbours have been evacuated.
