Valiant volunteers who man Nuneaton's cherished hospital tea bar are being told to stand down.

The last cups of tea will be served at the main League of Friends cafe at the George Eliot Hospital this Friday (March 20).

The maternity tea bar has already closed but the main cafe, based near to the main entrance, has been allowed to continue to run until the end of this week.

It is no secret that the lions share of League of Friends volunteers are retired residents or pensioners.

The government recommends that those aged 70 and over should either self isolate or socially distance themselves away from others as they are among the most vulnerable to coronavirus.

This means that the tea bars will not be able to be manned to stay open.

It is unclear how long they will be closed for.
