It's the end of an era for a popular Coventry pub as those running the bar announced its closure.

The Squirrel is set to close its doors next week, with last orders called on Friday, January 17.

Staff at The Greyfriars Lane pub announced the news to locals inside the pub and on social media - shocking and saddening many.

The pub has been a Coventry mainstay for over a decade, with current publican John Carey at the helm with his family for 15 years.

It is not known what will happen to the building once the pub, which is owned by brewery Punch (formerly Punch Taverns), closes.

Punch has been contacted for comment.

It was originally the Hare and Squirrel with an address in Cow Lane. It's had a number of rebuilds and name changes over the years.
