Police are warning people to be alert

An elderly man has had money stolen from him after being asked for directions.

The incident comes as pickpockets are targeting Coventry city centre.

Police are warning people to be alert as officers investigate a spate of pickpocket thefts in the area.

Money has been stolen from a number of people shortly after withdrawing it from banks around the High Street area.

A post on the Coventry Police Facebook says: "One 79-year-old man was distracted by women asking for directions as his money was stolen.

"So our advice is be discreet on the street and keep your cash out of sight. Also be suspicious of anyone who approaches you and tries to distract you with questions or queries."

Anyone with information can contact West Midlands Police via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk or call 101, quoting crime reference 20CV/291463M/19.

A basic description of those suspected might be a good idea.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
