Detectives want to find the getaway car used by masked burglars who fled after assaulting two officers.

They believe the vehicle used by the suspects was a silver Audi A5.

The masked thieves fled Highfield Road, Nuneaton, in the car after attacking two police officers at around 9.20pm last night (November 27).

An undisclosed number of masked suspects broke into a house on the road.

It has been confirmed that there was a resident inside the home at the time, but they were not injured.

Police have also said that early indications show that nothing was stolen during the break-in.

However, the suspects did assault two police officers.

It was as they left the house that the two police officers, who were on patrol in their car, tried to intervene but were assaulted.

The masked burglars then raced off in the getaway car.

One of the officers suffered a minor hand injury and the other a minor head injury. Both officers were taken to hospital as a precaution but later discharged and stayed on duty.

In a bid to catch the suspects, who struck at 9.20pm, detectives want to hear from anyone with any information.

A riot van and up to ten police cars were spotted in the area and officers closed off part of Highfield Road and Lutterworth Road as the hunt to catch the suspects got underway.

Now Detective Sergeant Chris Cook, from the Nuneaton-based proactive CID, has turned to the public for help: “We’d like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time, especially if they have dashcam or CCTV footage," he said.

"We are urging people to come forward as they may be able to provide key information about this incident.”
