Thousands of little voices sang 'Let it Go' as a Frozen-themed firework finale brought Nuneaton Christmas Lights Switch on to a climax.

They watched in wonder and sang with the music as fireworks burst into the night above the Town Hall earlier today (November 24).

The fireworks display was the climax to the annual event which saw the town's Christmas lights turned on.

Thousands crammed opposite the Town Hall and Coventry Street to watch Nuneaton and Bedworth's Mayor, councillor June Tandy, push the plunger to turn on the lights.

Her words: "Iit i so wonderful to see so many of you here to welcome the festive season, so lets all make it the very start of Christmas" brought cheers from the crowds.

Award-winning town crier Paul Gough warmed up the crowds before kick-starting a countdown from 12-1 for the lights to be turned on.

The lights may have officially been switched on at 5pm but there were charity stalls, hot food and drink as well as children's rides running in Queens Road and the top end of Abbey Street all day.

Families flocked to the town centre and stood seven deep opposite the Town Hall, some even on the top of the Ropewalk car park, to see the countdown to Christmas officially get underway.

It was not the first time that the famed song from Frozen had been used for Nuneaton's Christmas pyrotechnics display, as it was also used in 2014, but it proved to be a winner with the crowds, especially the youngsters.
