A 17-year-old boy was stabbed in the chest in Coventry city centre last night.

Police were called to the McDonald’s restaurant on Cross Cheaping shortly after 8pm, following reports of disorder outside the restaurant that had subsequently spilled inside it.

The teenager who was injured is not believed to have sustained life-threatening injuries, though he was taken to hospital.

A police investigation has now been launched and investigating officers have appealed for witnesses, or anyone with information, to come forward.

Police remained at the scene today and the area of pavement outside the McDonald’s restaurant was sealed off with incident tape.

A bicycle, with a buckled wheel, could be seen flat on the pavement behind the sealed off scene, next to one of the restaurant windows.

The restaurant remained closed and in darkness on Saturday morning, though staff could be seen working in the kitchen area.

It was not clear on Saturday morning when the restaurant might be reopening.

Police have yet to make any arrests 10 days after a teenager was stabbed in Coventry city centre.

The 17-year-old was stabbed in the chest shortly after 8pm on Friday November 22, after disorder broke out on Cross Cheaping and the Burges.

Police were called to the McDonald’s restaurant on the Burges, as the disorder, which began outside, spilt indoors.

The stabbing victim was taken to hospital for further treatment.

At the time, it was said that his injuries were not thought to be life threatening although a spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said they were "potentially serious".

A West Midlands Police spokesman told CoventryLive that there were no new updates but their investigation is continuing.
