Children from Shine a Light will test-ride a much-loved Vintage Sleigh Ride and meet Santa at a winter wonderland in Coventry.

Children from the Coventry and Warwickshire charity Shine a Light Support Service will be the first to take a magical journey to meet Santa at the exclusive launch of a renowned Christmas experience at the Coventry Transport Museum.

This year’s festivities at the museum will include a walk-through experience where families will have the chance to play games whilst waiting for their turn on the ride, and let joyful elves help them pick their own gifts to get in the festive spirit.

Shine a Light, which was founded in September 2016 by Sam Schoolar, a childhood cancer survivor, works to support families affected by cancer with home visits, counselling, coffee and activity sessions and day trips.

The Santa Experience officially opens on Monday, December 2 at 11am with the last chance to see Father Christmas before the big day being Monday, December 23.

Sam Schoolar at Shine a Light, said: “We are delighted for the children we support to be the first to experience this year’s sleigh ride and we’d like to thank the museum for the invitation.

“The attraction is an iconic part of Christmas in Coventry, so I’m sure the children are going to love seeing Father Christmas.

“We work hard to provide support for families going through a hard time, but another key aspect of our work are the day trips we offer as a distraction and something the whole family can enjoy - so this festive treat will be wonderful.”

Joy Corcec, Communications Officer at Culture Coventry, the charity which runs Coventry Transport Museum, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming families from Shine a Light to be the first to try the Sleigh Ride this year and experience our magical winter wonderland.”

Tickets will cost £8 per child which includes a gift from Santa and entry for two accompanying adults for each child with additional adults added for £1.50.

Coventry Transport Museum offers SEN sessions where the space will be adapted with a low sensory offer. To book a SEN session, call 024 7623 7523.
