It was a beautiful, crisp November day in Coventry for the Remembrance service held at the War Memorial Park.

The rain from Saturday had finally passed and given way to beautiful blue skies.

Thousands of people arrived at the park to pay their respects on this important day.

Shining off medals and lighting up the memorial itself, the sun made its way through the clouds to show off the sea of poppies proudly placed over the hearts of the Coventry people.

Once the crowds had gathered, the parade arrived, led by David Fellows, the chairman of the Royal Naval Association.

Leading the service was the Bishop of Coventry , Right Reverend Dr Christopher Cocksworth, who provided an introduction, followed by an exhortation by ex-serviceman Ralph Wooldridge TD.
"We will remember them"

He recited: "They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old, age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn;

"At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them."

Then the thousands across the park, with strength and in unison, recited: "We will remember them", marking the two minute silence.

Only the falling leaves created movement during the silence, as people stood stiff backed, remembering those who had fought for us.

The remainder of the service consisted of hymns, readings and prayers, alongside the laying of the wreaths by members of the armed forces, councillors and representatives from both West Midlands Police and West Midlands Fire Service.

Organisations such as the Scouts, the Girl Guides and Army Cadets also laid wreaths.

High above, a rainbow appeared, shining over the crowds of people as the wreaths were placed.

After the national anthem and thanks from the Lord Mayor, the parade left the park to applause.

The public were then able to lay their own wreaths at the cenotaph.
