A Coventry drug dealer has been jailed after admitting conspiracy to supply class A and B drugs.

Zaoheb Iqbal was spotted running from Springfield Road in Foleshill in December last year, where officers had stopped a Peugeot 307.

The car contained heroin with an estimated street value of £48,000.

The occupants of the car were arrested and charged, but officers were determined to pursue Iqbal. He was arrested but released when nothing was found on him.

However when officers retraced his steps, they found a set of keys to a parked car he had been standing next to and a search revealed more than £18,000 in cash and two mobile phones in the footwell.

One of the phones was linked to 33-year-old Iqbal and contained records of calls to the driver of the Peugeot and further calls linking him to a drugs seizure with a street value of more than £50,000 in Villa Road the month before.

Iqbal, from Ransom Road, Coventry, was arrested at Birmingham Airport, after returning from Pakistan, and pleaded guilty at the start of his trial on 28 October at Birmingham Crown Court.

He was sentenced to nine years behind bars.
