Train travellers across Coventry and the rest of the UK have endured a day of misery - with delays and cancellations causing chaos.

A broken down train near to Coseley in the Midlands this morning (October 29) caused significant disruption - with trains being delayed or cancelled on the West Coast Main Line.

This route connects Coventry with both London Euston and Birmingham New Street, along with much of the north.

And though the train has been moved, congestion has built up meaning disruption is expected until the end of service today.

As a result, passengers have been left stranded at Coventry Station , with the regular timetable having been thrown out the window, some trains being cancelled entirely and others delayed by up to 75 minutes.

Pictures taken at Coventry Railway Station this afternoon show chaotic scenes on the platforms.

Northbound services to Birmingham New Street are seemingly the worst affected.

Some trains were cancelled before they could even leave London Euston, while another was held at Rugby for an hour, before reaching Coventry, and subsequently being cancelled too.

Ticket acceptance is in place with alternative train providers, along with local bus routes.

National Rail has also requested replacement buses for stations including Coventry, Walsall, Birmingham New Street, Crewe and Wolverhampton to get people home.
