A once iconic building in Nuneaton town centre could be transformed into a community facility with a restaurant and residential apartment.

More than seven months after it was bought, plans have finally been unveiled for the future of the former Ritz building in Abbey Street.

The application seeks to change the use of the building to a mixed use so that the community facility, restaurant and apartment can be built.

It also asks permission to do works and renovation to a Listed building.

It has been more than a decade since there was any activity at the former cinema and bingo hall.

The application is from Mr Buddhi Magar, who is a registered member of Semichyong UK.

There are no official documents uploaded to the application, but a target decision date has been set for January 2 next year.

Semichyong UK bought the buildiing for £339,500 on February 27 this year.

CoventryLive contacted Semichyong UK to find out more about the plans for the building but, at the time of publication, no comment had been provided.

According to the Semichyong UK page on Facebook, the group is affiliated to Master Godangel, described as spiritual master and patron saint of Heavenly/Nirvana Path.

It was back in February when CoventryLive reported a mystery buyer had bought the building.

It stands on a "gateway" site off the Roanne Ringway just a few yards from the town's dandelion fountain.

Back in 2013, the asking price for the building stood at £1.3m but it has been more than decade since the once majestic building was last in use.

Despite several attempts to get it re-opened, nothing has yet come to fruition until now.
