Leicestershire Police have arrested two men in the Holbrooks area of Coventry following an incident which saw armed officers deployed and a police cordon placed around a shop.

Leicestershire Police said the operation saw its officers supported by armed officers from West Midlands Police.

A spokesman for the East Midlands force said that two men had been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation amid claims a man had been detained against his will.

The drama began to unfold shortly before 3pm at the junction of Holbrook Lane and Whitmore Park Road.

There was a heavy police presence in the vicinity, including armed officers in an unmarked car.

There were four police vehicles at the scene, including a large van and the unmarked car.

The cordon was around a shop at the junction of the two roads.

A Leicestershire Police vehicle was one of those seen at the scene.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said they were unable to confirm the exact nature of the incident as it was a Leicestershire Police led operation, though confirmed the incident was not a shooting as some had speculated on social media.

One man was seen being led from the cordoned off property by police officers and placed into a police vehicle.

He was followed out of the building by an officer armed with a rifle.

A Leicestershire Police spokesman said: “Officers have arrested two men today (September 24) as part of an ongoing investigation.

“Leicestershire Police received a report yesterday (September 23) of a man being held against his will.

“Given the nature of the report and in the interests of officers and public safety, armed officers attended an address in the Coventry area.

“The man was not at the address.

“Two men aged 40 and 44 have been arrested in connection with this incident and enquiries are ongoing.”
