A church in Coventry will be opening its doors for a special event open to the whole community, with animals from across the city being invited to take part.

The service is unique in that everyone is welcome, you don't have to be religious, and it's a special event to celebrate the patron saint of animals - St Francis.

The service will be held at St Patrick's Catholic Church in Wood End, and will be family friendly, with songs, activities and interactive ways for little ones and their pets to get involved.

Furry, scaly, spiky, all are welcome to this afternoon of family fun.

Organiser Sister Frances Woolman said: "St Francis has always been a saint loved by everybody across denominations and faiths.

"His legacy is, however, even more relevant to us today as we are aware of the damage we are doing to our world and the need we have to look after our creation."

Parish Priest of St Patrick's, Fr George Bennett, added: "This service has proved to be very popular and everybody of any faith and none, is welcome to bring their animals.

"Nobody is too big or too small to be welcomed."

Last year's event was a huge success, which saw animals of all shapes and sizes come out to the church.

Dogs were the main guests, but cats, rabbits and even a goldfish got in on the fun.

St Patrick's Church has an active core of volunteers that help the place run, from a talented music group and choir to a bustling 'little church' which often sees more than 30 children attend on a Sunday.

They have an open policy and built their very own community gardens , which have been a safe space for locals to come and reflect and spend a quiet moment.

Wood End is an area known for its strong sense of community spirit, so be sure to pop down for what is set to be a paw-pular event.
