The West Midlands Police Force Support unit tweeted about the incident on Monkswood Crescent, Henley Green, Coventry last night.

At the time of the Tweet, the officer was receiving treatment.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “Police on patrol at 8.40pm last night (September 9) spotted a van being driven suspiciously.

“Officers tried to stop the vehicle but were rammed twice before the occupants fled the scene on foot.

“The van, which was later identified as being stolen, was found to contain two lawnmowers which are believed to have also been stolen; the van has been recovered for forensic examination.

“An officer suffered minor back injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Last night’s tweet read: “#TeamCCovFSU are assisting @ResponseWMP in Coventry after a police vehicle was repeatedly rammed when attempting to stop a white van on false plates.

“The officer is currently being checked over, hopefully not seriously hurt.”

The post also included a hashtag asking ‘when will all this stop?’. It follows a string of incidents involving officers on duty being injured.
