Traffic lights at a major Coventry roundabout are out following a crash over the bank holiday weekend.

Traffic signals on the Rowleys Green roundabout on the A444, near the Ricoh Arena, have not worked since a car reportedly hit the lights on Sunday, August 25.

The crash damaged a cable knocking out the signals.

The council told CoventryLive that a traffic management system has been put in place until engineers are able to fix the issue.

Workers will be on site tonight and off-peak tomorrow, according to the council.

The fault caused some delays during the morning rush hour today as people headed back into work following the bank holiday weekend.

Coventry UTC put out a tweet warning drivers of the change and asking them to treat it as a normal roundabout while the signals remained switched off.

Some people on social media suggested the roundabout actually worked better without the lights.

On Twitter, one user said: "Traffic was flowing much better without them yesterday".

Another, on Facebook, commented: "Seem to run better as people not risking causing an accident."

If designed properly there is no need for lights on islands. In fact, they can impede traffic flow.
