'It is not fair on people just because they don’t have driveways'

Fuming motorists face being charged TRIPLE what they pay to park close to their homes in Nuneaton and Bedworth,

Those who live in parking permit zones in the borough have been warned the amount they pay could rise from £25 to £80.

It has incensed some, with a Graham Street resident contacting CoventryLive to air his disgust about the 'joke' plans by Warwickshire County Council.

He said that households had received a leaflet from Shire Hall announcing the possible rise.

"We have heard that parking permits for residents in Nuneaton and surrounding areas will be jumping from £25 a year to £80 a year," he said

"I think the people of Nuneaton need to know about this ASAP as this is a joke and not fair on people just because they don’t have driveways."

In Nuneaton, there are three different parking permit zones while there are two in Bedworth.

CoventryLive contacted the county council to find out why the permit costs could soon rise.

A Shire Hall spokesperson explained that it was an 'unavoidable need' to ask permit holders to pay more as the local authority has been under-charging for years.

"Warwickshire County Council is currently undertaking a review of the pricing structure for its residents' parking permits," said a spokesperson.

"The residents’ permit schemes are part of the way in which we ensure that there are suitable and adequate parking facilities on the highway for people near their homes but there is an unavoidable cost to administering and enforcing such schemes and, unfortunately, the cost of residents permits is having to rise."

The spokesperson added:"Financial analysis shows that the cost for administering these parking schemes is approximately £80 per permit.

"For many years, WCC has kept its permit charges at a level which has not reflected the cost of running the permit scheme. We now have an unavoidable need to raise our charges to more closely meet our costs."

There is no automatic right to park near your property. Sorry, pay up or shut up!
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

About a pound a week. If motorists cant afford that they cannot afford a car.
