Council rapped for telling residents high-rise block would be smaller than it was

The applicant had not taken account of the fact the ground floor was the first storey

Coventry council has been rapped by a watchdog after telling residents a high-rise block would be smaller than it was.

The block of flats was granted planning permission after the authority published inaccurate information about the number of storeys the development would have in a public consultation.

The applicant had not taken account of the fact the ground floor was the first storey.

The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman upheld complaints, saying the onus was on the council to "make sure it was right".

But they added “this fault led to no identifiable injustice”.

A spokesman for Coventry City Council said they would try and learn from the mistake.

To me this amounts to malfeasance in public office.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
