A Warwickshire woman has been banned from owning animals for ten years after she left her pet dog locked alone in a room in her flat for at least five days.

Tamsyn Beck, 28, of Dunchurch Road, Rugby, admitted two animal welfare offences under the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

Beck pleaded guilty to the offences at Leamington Magistrates’ Court and was subsequently sentenced at the same court.

She had left her Staffordshire bull terrier Kaiser locked in a room at her Rugby flat for at least five days.

The RSPCA was alerted by concerned members of the public who were worried about the dog’s welfare.

RSPCA inspector Helen Smith was sent to investigate on January 28.

She said: “We know Beck left Kaiser for at least five days but it could have been longer which is obviously very concerning.

“Dogs need to be cared for properly and as well as being fed and watered and exercised, they are social creatures so need company, affection and interaction.

“Poor Kaiser was left for a number of days with no such attention and must have felt frightened and lonely.”

An RSPCA spokesman said Kaiser was now “doing well” in the care of the RSPCA and that the animal welfare charity would be looking to rehome him soon.

As well as the ban on keeping animals Beck was also ordered to carry out a 12-month community order, including 100 hours of unpaid work, as well as a 15-day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.

She was also ordered to pay £135 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Beck admitted failing to meet Kaiser’s need to be protected from pain, suffering, injury or disease by failing to provide reasonable daily care and supervision in respect of his protection from harm.

Also failing to meet his need to be able to exhibit normal behaviour patterns.
