Simon King pleaded guilty at Warwick Crown Court to three charges of making indecent images of children by downloading them.

And after hearing it was the third time he had appeared in court for such offences, Judge Peter Cooke jailed King (54) of Westmorland Road, Wyken, Coventry, for six months.

Prosecutor Steven Bailey said that in 2015 King, who at one time had been chairman of Wyken Adventure Centre for children and young people, had been given a community order after pleading guilty to making indecent images of children.

That was revoked in January last year after he pleaded guilty to further similar offences, and he was jailed for eight months and made subject to a sexual harm prevention order.

“On the 7th of December 2017, after he had pleaded guilty to that last matter, but before being sentenced, police officers went to his home.

“They asked him to give them anything he had which may have images on them, and he surrendered five memory sticks and a computer tower.”

Mr Bailey said that on them officers found 1,106 indecent images of children, although some of those were duplicates.

King entered his pleas on the basis that they were all old images which had been left over following his first arrest – but that was rejected by Mr Bailey who pointed out the computer tower had not been purchased until the spring of 2017.

He also rejected King’s contention that the material on the USB sticks was old – and Judge Cooke observed: “He said that on the last occasion, saying the material on that USB was from before his 2015 conviction.”

Imposing the six-month sentence, Judge Cooke told King: “You are an incorrigible seeker after and hoarder of filth relating to the sexual abuse of children.

“You have been before the courts for doing it in 2015, 2017 and 2018, and more of it has come to light.

“It goes back further than the dates on the indictment. You have had this interest probably since about 1996, according to the pre-sentence report, and police interventions have failed to deter you.

“The level of determination to persist in your offending is the greatest aggravating feature.

“The long period over which you have been determinedly doing it is a further aggravating feature, and it’s been systematically stored and catalogued.”
