The incident took place off Chapel Street, Rugby, at around 2:45am today (SUnday, June 2).
The victim, a woman in her 20s, is being supported by specially trained officers.
Detectives said the offender was Asian, aged between 24 and 27 years old, 5ft 8in tall with short black spiky hair.
Enquiries in the area are being carried out however they believe the victim spoke to another woman close to the traffic light on Corporation Street shortly after the incident.
Police have appealed for that woman to come forward.
Officers remain in the area today to provide reassurance to the local community.
