Armed officers were spotted outside student flats in Coventry as a police helicopter flew overhead.

One eyewitness said that six police cars arrived at Callice Court, in Far Gosford Street, on Tuesday evening, May 21.

During the drama, armed officers were seen alongside their uniformed colleagues.

CoventryLive has contacted West Midlands Police for details on the incident and we are awaiting a response.

Callice Court houses students at the nearby Coventry University and we have also contacted the university for a comment.

Armed police called to street fight involving machetes and bats

A fight involving men armed with machetes and baseball bats broke out in Coventry.

The street fight happened at the junction of Grafton Street and Binley Road, in Lower Stoke, on Tuesday evening (May 21).

Police were called and say that fortunately nobody was injured.

CoventryLive understands this is the same incident that saw police, reportedly including armed officers, spotted in nearby Far Gosford Street that same evening.

However, this is yet to be confirmed by West Midlands Police.
