4000 out of work. Each of these will be claiming Job Seekers allowance plus housing benefit. Probably adds up to at least £150 a week, variable by size of family etc. They will of course not be paying income tax or NI. Total cost must be about one million a week. So it would perhaps have been cheaper to have bailed out British Steel. This is not allowed under EU regulations, that's the EU that we should have left months ago.
