A police chase led to officers arresting two suspected carjackers who allegedly threatened a driver with a knife in Nuneaton.

Two men are in custody today (May 16) following the chase through Birmingham city centre last night.

They have been arrested on suspicion of robbery as a result of the frightening incident on the car park of the Asda store in Newtown Road.

It took place at 5.40pm on Tuesday (May 14) while the victim was in his Volkswagen Polo car.

It is claimed that the driver was threatened at knifepoint and then dragged out of the vehicle before the robbers escaped in it.

The car was last seen heading towards Queens Road.

The stolen car was spotted in Birmingham city centre yesterday (May 15) but sped off when West Midlands Police tried to stop it.

This led to a police chase, which ended up with the car crashing.

Occupants inside the car tried to make off on foot but were later caught by the police.

As a result, two 20-year-olds from Birmingham were arrested on suspicion of robbery and are currently in custody.
