A man has died following a fire at a block of flats in Bell Green on Monday evening.

A total of six fire appliances attended the blaze on the 16th floor of Falkener House on Stoney Stanton Road.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed one person had died at the scene.

The ambulance service spokesman said: “West Midlands Ambulance Service can confirm that it was called to a flat fire on Stoney Stanton Road, Coventry, at 5.55pm last night.

“An ambulance and paramedic officer attended.

“Sadly one patient was confirmed deceased on scene.”

Firefighters from Coventry, Foleshill and Canley fire stations attended the incident. The fire service says the blaze is being treated as accidental.

Crews at the scene told CoventryLive they arrived around 6pm, but the building was not evacuated.

A crew member at Foleshill fires station said: “Four fire appliances from Canley and Coventry attended and two from Foleshill.

“We were there until at least midnight last night before the incident was closed.”

A number of police cars were also at the scene, with officers stood just outside the entrance to the flats.

A small police cordon was put in place just outside the flats.
