Abdul Khan could lose his licence after being found guilty in court

A taxi driver refused to let a woman and her guide dog in to his car as he feared his seats would get scratched.

Self-employed driver Abdul Qayyum Khan wouldn't allow Pat Mulqueen-Wood and her four-year-old black Labrador, Jenny, in his vehicle and will now have to fork out over £1,500 and could lose his licence.

He stood trial at Coventry Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, May 8 and was found guilty of being a private hire vehicle driver and failing or refusing to carry out a booking for a disabled person accompanied by an assistance dog.

Khan, 56, of Durbar Avenue, Foleshill, was handed a fine and although magistrates are unable to make the decision to strip Khan of his taxi licence, that decision could still be made by Coventry City Council’s licensing committee following his conviction.

Speaking after the trial, Mrs Mulqueen-Wood, a grandmother of two, said: "It's not just for me. I've been able to follow it through, but there are people out there who can't for whatever reason.

"I'm standing up for them as well."

I hope he does lose his licence. We don't need taxi drivers like him.
