A woman desperately knocked on doors in Hillfields for help last night after she was stabbed in the neck and chest.

The 31-year-old woman suffered serious injuries in the attack in Vauxhall Street.

She had knocked on a number of doors in the area for help before a passing motorist called an ambulance.

Emergency services staff found her with stab wounds in Clarence Street shortly after 3.30am this morning (Tuesday, May 7).

She was taken to hospital where she is still being treated for the serious injuries.

A large part of Berry Street remains cordoned off by police today as forensic investigators begin their work.

Coventry investigation Inspector Becky Farr appealed for witnesses.

She said: “I am appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have information on what happened, to speak to us.

“If you think you may have dash-cam footage of the incident before or after it happened, please check and get in touch with us.”

Police are also checking for CCTV in the area which might have captured the attack.

The police cordon currently stretches along Berry Street from Coronation Road until the junction of Nelson Street and King William Street.

Traffic is still being diverted down Coronation Road around the cordon.

The stabbing is the 18th in the city since the start of the year.

They may already know who did it? He (I'm assuming it's a "he") may even already be in police custody?

Jilted man jailed for savage attack that left sex worker scarred for life

A man launched a savage attack on a sex worker he’d never met – because he was angry after his relationship ended.

The 31-year-old woman has been left scarred for life after Polish national Bartosz Konopacki stabbed her with a kitchen knife in the heart, neck and head.

Today, in a hearing at Warwick Crown Court, he was jailed for 21 years.

The court heard that Konopacki, aged 26, of Hillmorton Road in Coventry , split up with his partner just before the attack – and was intent on taking out his aggression on any woman he could find.

At a previous hearing the court was told how a police officer saved the victim’s life by pushing his fingers into a wound in her neck to stop the bleeding before paramedics arrived.

The attack took place at 3.15am on May 7 in Vauxhall Street. It’s understood that Konopacki split with his partner and was driving around the Hillfields area on the lookout for potential victims.

He spotted a 31-year-old sex worker, and lured her down a backstreet, pretending to be interested in business. Then, without warning, he pulled out a kitchen knife and stabbed her four times in the chest, once in the neck and then in the head.

He ran to his car and drove off, leaving the woman to knock on doors for help. A passing motorist stopped and called the emergency services.

A knife and glove were recovered from the scene but as Konopacki was not on the police DNA database they were unable to forensically link him to the attack.

CCTV showed Konopacki, a factory worker, leaving the scene in a light coloured BMW – but detectives could only get a partial number plate from the footage.

Officers then carried out a painstaking trawl of all cameras covering routes into the Hillfields area in a bid to trace the attacker’s getaway route. A vital breakthrough came when an off-duty cop spotted the BMW abandoned in a care home car park on May 9.

The car was registered to Konopacki at an address in Wood End where he was later arrested. A search of the home revealed a kitchen knife block with one knife missing.

DNA from the distinctive orange knife and glove was then matched to Konopacki and his victim picked him out during an ID procedure.

He was found guilty of attempted murder last month, and today (Monday) was jailed for 21 years at Warwick Crown Court.
