A paedophile from Coventry and his brother, who abused a young girl in the 1970s, have been jailed

John Mackenzie was found guilty of abusing the victim more than 40 years ago and was today, Monday, April 29, sentenced to 14 years in prison.

The 60-year-old, of Pondthorpe, Willenhall, was found guilty of five counts of indecency with a child, three counts of rape, and two counts of indecent assault following a trial in March.

He was jailed alongside his brother - Peter Mackenzie, 57, of Borve, Isle of Lewis, who was convicted of six counts of indecent assault, six counts of indecency with a child, five counts of rape and one count of causing actual bodily harm.

He was handed 16 years behind bars.

They began abusing their young victim in Leicester in the 1970s when she was a child, continuing until she was around 14 years old.

She reported the abuse in March 2017 and an investigation began.

Speaking after the sentencing, Det Con Anna Blockley, the investigating officer, said: “This abuse happened more than 40 years ago and I believe that both Peter and John Mackenzie thought that their victim would never speak about what happened.

“But, she found the courage to speak to police and speak in great detail about what the brothers did to her.

“I hope that, all these years later, she can still take some comfort from the fact that they have finally been jailed for their crimes.”
