Around 1,200 homes in Nuneaton were left without electricity this morning after a huge power cut hit the area.

The Galley Common and Whittleford areas were hardest hit by the cut.

Western Power say they are working hard on the problem and aim to have power restored to all homes by 10.30am.

The company said several hundred homes had already been reconnected.

Among the roads affected were Ansley Common, Camp Hill, Chapel End and Kingswood Road.

The first outage was believed to have happened shortly after 9am.

A Western Power spokesman said: "There is currently a power cut in CV10 CV11 Nuneaton.

"We are working on the issue and we aim to have the power restored by 10.20am."

Some people reported a flicker before power was quickly restored but for others it was a complete cut off.
